The Discipline of Self-examination

 Psalm 139:23-24 ESV: Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! 

 2 Corinthians 13:5-7 ESV: Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. 7 But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. 

 Lamentations 3:40 ESV: Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!  

 Psalm 15:1-5 ESV: O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? 2  He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; 3  who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; 4  in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5  who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.  

 Questions of Examination 

 1. Was the truth of Scripture evident in my life today?  

 2. Have I created space to listen to God in the last 24 hours?  

 3. What am I doing with my spare time? 

 4. Am I disobeying God in anything? 

 5. Am I connected in the community of faith?  

 6. Where am I struggling with pride?  

 7. Do I have any unhealthy relationships? If so, what am I doing about it? 

 8. Is Jesus real to me?  

 9. Have I shared the gospel this week?  

 10. Am I pursuing God? 

 What’s my next step?
