What I've Recently Learned

by Brenda Kidd on July 22, 2020

Last week, we had an awesome opportunity with Pathway Kids Summer Experience. Months ago, we began planning a very different event. Our earlier expectation was the VBS we have known and loved for years. As the reality set in that our normal summer event was not possible, our Administrative Team began praying for guidance. God was faithful and began to reveal new and different possibilities. Excitement grew within our team as we envisioned Summer Experience. Each team member brought his/her individual gifts and talents to create a unique online experience and personalized family kits. A fun and exciting Focus Kit pickup party was planned, and evening Facebook Live events were imagined. All this occurred in a matter of weeks!

Through this #vbsreimagined, I was reminded that God always has a plan, and He will use us and our circumstances to create new opportunities for growth as we seek His will in our planning.

I also learned…

• that the “how” is not nearly as important as the “why” in connecting with those around us.

• that families can have a blast playing and having faith conversations together at home.

• that providing resources and supplies takes a burden away from parents allowing them to just focus on interacting and enjoying time with their children.

I am reminded of Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20) Having that assurance, I can open my mind to planning differently in the new reality of today.  Throughout this summer, God is teaching me to continue to seek Him for the new and exciting possibilities to come. I’m waiting in anticipation!

A team member expressed her thoughts this way: “What a GREAT week it has been!!! So glad to be part of a team who believed that VBS was worth reimagining! Praise Jesus for all the amazing ways He showed up this week in so many homes in our community and beyond.”  I couldn’t have said it any better!

Thank you to our church community for allowing us to #vbsreimagine this year!

Blessings,

Brenda Kidd
