Hope For Tomorrow

by Glen Bohannon on May 19, 2020

 4 I have asked the Lord for one thing—
this is what I desire!
I want to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,
so I can gaze at the splendor of the Lord
and contemplate in his temple.
5 He will surely give me shelter in the day of danger;
he will hide me in his home.
He will place me on an inaccessible rocky summit.
Psalm 27:4-5

This passage of scripture is one of my favorites. Anytime I feel fear or become distraught, or face uncertainty in my life, these verses of scripture spring to the forefront of my mind. They always lift my spirit and fill my heart with peace. Like the Psalmist, I, too, can claim the promises of His Word and rest completely victorious and spiritually comfortable in the shelter of His tabernacle. It's there that the cries of my heart are heard and the joy of my song sings out in reckless abandonment because fear has been replaced with hope. It's under the shelter of His almighty wings that I feel safe and confident in God's ability to fight the battle raging around me. I need but humbly surrender myself to be the vessel through which He works to accomplish His mission and His purposes in my life.

When I was a high school student, we lived next to the Richard-Gebaur Air Force Base outside of Kansas City, Missouri. The storm sirens would often sound to warn the community of approaching tornados. It may not have been the smartest thing to do, but I often enjoyed standing on the deck to watch the dark and mysterious clouds roll in. I would not linger there long; I knew safety and shelter were waiting for me in the basement. Being in the comfort of the basement made me feel safe and content, much like resting in the arms of a father figure. I feel the same emotions when I find myself in the presence of my heavenly Father. I have nothing to fear. He is my salvation. He lights my path when the way is dark. He is the one who gives me the strength to live each day with calm assurance.

There can be bright hope for tomorrow for those who truly believe. Why should our souls choose to live in fear? Let this day be one in which you walk, live, and abide in the presence of God. Let Him be your Protector and hide you safely in His home.  Oh, how I love to be sheltered in the beauty of His tabernacle. For to sing His praises without hesitation is when my soul finds the greatest comfort.

1  The Lord is my light and my salvation.
I fear no one.
The Lord protects my life. I am afraid of no one.
Psalm 27:1
