GET OUT OF MY WAY AND LET ME DANCE!

by Glen Bohannon on July 31, 2020

Adonai your God is in your midst—
    a mighty Savior!
He will delight over you with joy.
He will quiet you with His love.
He will dance for joy over you with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

Do you sometimes feel like your heart just needs to be free to dance and sing because of what God has done for you? When we seek His heart and follow His commands, then gladness is soon to follow in the heart of the believer. This truth is pointed out in one of my favorite old testament passages from Zephaniah. It has been one of my favorite scripture verses for as long as I can remember. It always causes my heart to rejoice. One song that has particularly helped to bring this passage to life for me is the anthem And the Father Will Dance written by Mark Hayes. When I think of who God is, what God has done and what God will do when I am in my darkest hours, my soul comes to life with exuberance. Read the song text below as you listen to the video clip and watch the beauty of worship unfold: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cmcA_MARBE

And the Father will dance over you in joy!
He will take delight in whom He loves
Is that a choir I hear singing the praises of God?
No, the Lord God Himself is exulting over you in song!
And He will joy over you in song.
And He will joy over you in song

My soul will make its boast in God
for He has answered all my cries
His faithfulness in me is as sure as the dawn of a new day.

Awake, my soul! Awake, my soul! Awake, my soul, and sing!
Let my spirit rejoice. Let my spirit rejoice. Let my spirit rejoice in God!

Sing, O daughter of Zion, with all of your heart!
Cast away fear for you have been restored!
Put on the garment of praise as on a festival day
Join with the Father in glorious, jubilant song!

And He will joy over you in song.
And He will joy over you in song
And the Father will dance over you in joy!
He will take delight in whom He loves
Is that a choir I hear singing the praises of God?
No, the Lord God Himself is exulting over you in song!

God rejoices over you.
God rejoices over you.
God rejoices over you in song!

Now, that is something to celebrate. God will dance over me with joy and singing because He loves me. When I am downcast I will often say to myself, "Awake my soul! Sing! Sing His praise with all that is within you. Make your worship as jubilant as you possibly can."

Praising the Father will tune my heart to strains of happiness and peace. Sometimes I can get so excited I can't help but dance in reckless abandonment. Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever busted out in an uncontrolled song or an exuberant jig? When the heart is full sometimes you just have to let it express the joy that is inside. Don't try to squelch it or suppress it. God loves the honest expressions of the heart. He wants His children not to be afraid but to honestly worship in spirit and truth.

Have you ever felt this way or acted out in joyous responses that just cannot be contained?

Don't be afraid to set your soul free.

Sing at the top of your lungs with all your heart.

Dance likes there is no tomorrow because your God is in your midst.
