FOCUS

by Brenda Kidd on April 28, 2020

As I sit in my office on a Monday, there are only a few of us in the building. I look out into the parking lot and see three cars. Usually, at this time of day, the parking lot is full. Typically, on a Monday, my thoughts are on planning for Wednesday and Sunday “on campus” ministry. Today, I am planning ministry for the week ahead, but it looks different. Because it is different, my mind begins to wander to the way things used to be. That’s such a human thing to do! Do you find comfort in the familiar? We like familiar routines, schedules and rhythms, and some of the familiar is so routine, we don’t even think about it anymore! While I think it may be healthy to acknowledge things are not familiar or as they used to be, right now we have an incredible opportunity to see God at work as we choose to turn our focus unto Him and not the familiar.

“'Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations,
 I will be exalted in the earth!’
The Lord of hosts is with us;
 the God of Jacob is our fortress." Psalm 46:10-11

At first glance, “Be still” may be interpreted as taking the opportunity to be contemplative. Quietly and prayerfully reflecting on God and His Word gives us necessary moments to hear from Him. Being still may be one of the greater challenges in today’s culture, and yet being still allows us to hear from God. In further study, this passage may speak to allowing ourselves time to stop, reflect and be in awe of who God is and time spent fully focused on acknowledging Him

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

As I turn my full focus unto God, I am encouraged that a new familiar will emerge. My Mondays will be different. Ministry opportunities presented to us now and in the future may be different. I can’t wait to see the journey unfold as we focus on being still and knowing that He is God.

Blessings,
