Electrical Problems

by Shane Standlick on August 05, 2020

Breakfast for dinner is one of my favorites! A good waffle, crispy bacon and eggs…it doesn’t get much better than that! This past weekend, Megan and I decided we would make breakfast for dinner on Friday night! We started by cooking the bacon in the microwave (I know, some might be asking why I am cooking it in the microwave instead of the oven…stay tuned, that advice may have saved me). Then, we plugged in the waffle iron to start the preheat. BOOM! Power was out in the kitchen! Apparently, the microwave and the waffle iron were pulling too much electricity at the same time and blew the breaker. Of course this happens on a Friday night when all I wanted to do was sit down, eat my bacon and watch a movie, but it was not going to be that easy. Fast forward to the pivot; waffles turned into pancakes, bacon was not as crispy as I would have liked and the eggs were cold, but breakfast for dinner happened.

Now, this isn’t a message of the perfect breakfast for dinner on a Friday night or my handy electrician skills I used to fix the problem on Saturday.

It’s a reminder of how sometimes we find ourselves with too many things plugged in and eventually the breaker goes bad and everything stops working. Too much is being pulled from us and we forget to recharge ourselves.

I have a poster in my office with Matthew 11:28 on it; “come unto me all ye who are weary and I will give you rest.” (There are coffee cups on it!) This is a message we all need to hear sometimes. If we forget to recharge ourselves, how can we continue to pour into others like we are called? Jesus is the ultimate restorer. He is the one that refills our cup when it runs low. All we need to do is seek Him and He will make sure the electricity keeps flowing.
