Celebrations!

by Brenda Kidd on October 22, 2020

October 22 is a day of celebration for my family. My husband’s grandmother is 105 years old today, and my youngest grandson turns two years old today. We have a lot to celebrate! As I reflect on these celebrations, I wonder about the many experiences my grandmother-in-law must have witnessed in her 105 years. I can only imagine! Our family enjoys listening to her stories about the old days, both good and bad. The world and our culture have both changed dramatically over the past 100 years…some changes have been positive and some negative. Looking forward, I wonder what my grandson, who is just beginning his journey, will experience in his lifetime? How will the world and culture change over the next century?

We can sometimes be easily discouraged in our current environment as we look toward the future. We may worry or let negative circumstances consume our thoughts. Was that not true in the past as well? In moments of uncertainty, I look to God’s Word for His promises.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8

While everything around us is changing, Jesus stays the same. When faced with obstacles from the past or future, we can be assured that Jesus is with us. I find great comfort in reading God’s promises in scripture. While I may not know what the future holds, my Creator does know, and I can celebrate His promises.

As I am writing this, I can hear beautiful squeals and laughter outside my window as preschoolers play on the playground. This is yet another reminder to celebrate the future because “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!”
