Building as One

by David Moore on September 24, 2020

I have recently become fascinated with how computers are built. I have never built any myself, mostly because I’m too scared and lazy to do that. I have, however, enjoyed watching others put those computer parts together like jumbo-sized Legos. What makes this process so fascinating? Simply put, every part is essential to make the computer function properly. The CPU is basically the brain of the computer. The motherboard is basically the heart of the computer and everything connects to it. The RAM modules affect the speed of your computer and how well it can run multiple programs simultaneously. Don’t forget the power supply, which, as you probably could guess, gives the computer its power. Not only are these main parts important, but each part has to be compatible with each other. An example would be trying to pair an incompatible CPU with the motherboard. Your computer may not turn on or worse, it might become damaged.

When I think about the concept of building computers, I think about the incredible team I get to work with at Cool Spring in the Student Ministry. Like the computer, each and every team member is essential for the ministry to function well. Although we are all different in our gifts and skills, we are all compatible in the sense that we are able to work in unison for the glory of God.

Paul says it this way:

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”--Ephesians 4:15-16

This is how the Church is supposed to operate. If you are a Christ follower, you are an important member of the Body. You have certain spiritual gifts, which can and should be used to build up the Church and share the love of Christ. We need to work together. Let’s build each other up in love. We are more than some fancy computer; we are the Bride of Christ!

Love and serve God. Love and serve people.
